Our resident Penguin expert, Dr Peter Dann announces retirement

The Penguin Foundation extends its sincere gratitude and congratulations to Peter Dann, Penguin Foundation Board Member and Research Director at Phillip Island Nature Parks, on his upcoming and very well-deserved retirement.

After an incredible 42-year career in penguin conservation and research, our esteemed Research Director, Dr Peter Dann is retiring from Phillip Island Nature Parks. Peter has also been a passionate and long-term Member of the Penguin Foundation Board and we offer our sincere thanks for his expertise, guidance and dedication to the Penguin Foundation.

Peter has made a significant contribution to the Little penguin colony on Phillip Island (Millowl). He and the research team have proudly worked to increase the colony from 8000 and 12,000 breeding penguins in 1983 to the largest colony of Little penguins in the world, with 40,000 spread across the peninsula.

In Peter's words, “I’ve met people who don’t like Christmas and cats and babies, but I’ve never met someone who doesn’t like penguins.”
